Ronovo Surgical, a China-based company focused on next-gen surgical robotics, has closed a $67 million Series D financing round led by Johnson & Johnson’s corporate venture capital organization, JJDC, and participation from Lilly Asia Ventures, INCE Capital, and Granite Asia.

This represents Ronovo’s second major funding round this year, following a Series C round led by Granite Asia earlier this year. The company has raised over $100 million this year, and continues to gain strong investor support.

In addition to the Series D closing, the company signed a targeted collaboration with Johnson & Johnson Medical (Shanghai) focused on expanding surgical technology choice and access in China. The collaboration will provide hospitals in parts of the China market with the advantages of Carina, Ronovo’s flagship modular robotic surgery platform, alongside complementary J&J MedTech surgical tech.

Carina earned regulatory approval from China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in March 2025. This made it the first modular surgical robotic system in the country to gain a first-time filing that covers four major specialties: general surgery, gynecology, urology, and thoracic surgery.

Thanks to a configurable modular architecture, Carina challenges the flexibility, adaptability, and affordability issues of legacy robotic surgical systems.

Ronovo has also begun global expansion with submissions underway in Europe and South America. The company said the platform has already received positive feedback from international key opinion leaders.

“We are grateful for the successful closing of our Series D round led by JJDC,” said Ronovo chairman and CEO Dr. John Ma. “Carina—flexible, adaptable, and affordable—embodies our commitment to democratizing access to surgical robotics on a global scale. We’re excited about the strategic collaboration with Johnson & Johnson MedTech, which will further accelerate our commercial momentum in China while laying the foundation for international growth.”
